When you write…
you have friends who write.
I have before me a pile of friend’s books. They pull me in when I should be writing myself and yet today is special. Today is National Rescue Dog Day and what better way to celebrate than to talk about a book that reminds us in so many ways how our companions, our furry companions, give us so much. One essay I point to, The Gift of Now, page 48, just to help you a bit because this book is so full of heartfelt writings about such beautifully human moments. This one reminds us what is important. I think back to the years when I felt so busy and probably did not devote as much time, or patience to the “now” of things. The hurried walks because of rain…really glorious rain that was a treasure to feel with a pup on a leash, who did not mind and was happy with it! Then, the way too fast goodbyes when leaving the house and a tiny guy with separation anxiety needed a few more minutes to adjust. Moments when you had time to just sit and you didn’t, moments that go by way too quickly. Having these precious pets, cats too everyone, really gives us permission in this crazy, sometimes sad world to slow down and feel love more. And that is what life is all about, isn’t it?
Jacque says, “It is my hope that you will also accept the gift your companion animals desperately want you to receive.” Such a perfect sentiment and I believe they love us so much that it is true.
Woof Notes is available at bookshop.org and Amazon. You will love it. Plus, this is a great gift for new parents of rescues.
