I was going through my Kindle, looking through old reads, and I came across books that I have not thought of in a very long time. One in particular I saw that I thought was exceptional and the only book I have read that gave me a glimpse into war that I had never seen. My husband was not sent to Vietnam during that time. I am grateful that only one fighter jet came down for his class. That is a plane that every young pilot would choose. He was second in his class, and he was disappointed. He did not want a cargo plane so decided to stay in the United States and train other pilots. This book opened my eyes to what war was really like. I don’t normally read books about war. I read it because the very smart daughter of a friend had read it, contacted the author and he came to speak to her class. She was an amazing teacher who really enriched her students in every way she could. This book is genius and so well done you feel you are there. It is Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes. I believe it changed me and made me see the way war devastated all around it. This is a good and heartbreaking time to read about war. There are those we should know about. Just a suggestion. I think anyone would benefit, would find it incredible!
There are many stories about pilots and pilot training. I will talk about them from time to time.
Thanks for reminding me to put Matterhorn on my reading list, Ann. Have heard it was excellent. There is no doubt that war is hell. Will start reading it tomorrow morning. Cheers!
